Recently the Province of Manitoba has implemented a new online course to prepare young workers wishing to enter the job market. The course and certificate are required for employees under the age of 16. This program is designed to educate young workers on the rights and responsibilities of both employees and employers.
Employers must confirm successful completion of the program and keep a copy of the certificate in the young worker’s employment record. There are also rules which apply to young workers regarding working hours, restricted job roles for certain ages, and other rules designed to protect the health and safety of young workers which employers must follow.
This program replaces a process whereby it used to be the responsibility of the employer to apply for a permit to hire young workers.
