The MRFA has recently become aware of coordinated efforts by some members of the public to harass restaurants for simply following the health orders as laid out by the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Health.
To learn more about this, listen to the following radio interviews:
- CJOB: Shaun Jeffrey on Restaurants Facing Backlash for Following Restrictions – Sept. 1, 2021
- CJOB: Tony Siwicki on Restaurants Facing Backlash for Following Restrictions – Sept. 1, 2021
While the MRFA acknowledges that restaurants and the food service industry in general wish restrictions were able to cease, that is simply not the case while the pandemic continues at this time, and our owners and operators have no choice but to follow the restrictions or close their doors.
We encourage all Manitobans to continue to support restaurants in whatever ways they are able and feel comfortable, whether that be through dining in, take-out, purchasing gift cards, or simply engaging on social media with your favorite spot! We know and thank the majority of Manitobans who have supported our restaurants before, during, and will continue to do so after the pandemic; we know those who are behaving poorly now do not represent the vast majority of our valued guests.
If you disagree with current restrictions and health orders, we encourage you to contact the Government of Manitoba, as that is the appropriate place to direct this feedback.
Please remember, we are all doing our best to survive this pandemic together. We thank you for your ongoing support!
